Hi all, recently one of my hens Mango has been sitting in the nest box from 7 till 12 for the past 3 days but not laying any eggs just sitting on the others. She wont budge in between those times but as soon as its past noon shes in the yard being her normal self.

Is she growling at you? Flattened like a pancake? Has a strange look on her face?
If so, sounds like she is broody.
If you pull her out of the nest does she run back?

The other would be egg bound. If she looks other wise unstress and healthy probably not. But check her underneath for swelling. And make sure she is walking normal.

she seems like shes healthy and walking normally. every time i come out to check on the hens she still runs up to me and follows me around. i also picked her up earlier today and she felt fine.

Well, how old is she? How long has she been laying for? When did she stop? How's her feather condition? Do you ever try to take her off the nest after she has been there awhile? If not, try and see how she is. Mater of fact, take and post a photo of her. Broody have a particular look to them that may help solve your mystery. ♡

She is so pretty. I'm gunna lean towards broody. You have a lot of chickens! Sitting on 20 eggs, wow! I have had more than a few go broody @ 7 months. Do you have a roo?

Her face has the beginning look of broody to me. Though she is not flat yet. Your going to have to decide weather your going to let he sit or not. Of you don't have a roo then you decision is already made for you. You would have to "break her". That would mean setting her up in a cage with food and water and no nesting material for 3 or more days. If you can do this in your coop close to her pals, that is best.

thank you and no i do not have a roo sadly. and i was also thinking she was broody too but it kind of looks like she doesnt know what to do lol

i could let her sit i have friend who has a roo so should have plenty of fertile eggs

Poor sweet girl. Having a lots of eggs in the nest box may lean them towards going broody. Like it kicks the instincts in. Be sure to empty the nest box, if you have plenty chickens may need to do a few times a day to prevent others from getting that loving feeling to. Though, some will get it anyways.
