Weird Goose Behavior..............why?

Maybe not if he has ducks to hang with. if by himself then he might. Maybe you can start searching for another mate for your gander.

X2! Even a gander for a buddy is better than being solo. Poor guy. Not sure where you are located, but I have a friend with available geese where I live (in Utah). If you ask around on the forum, there is bound to be someone close by that could help you get your gander a new friend.

I have the ducks but he has (historically) been mean to them. Meanwhile, I am trying to find a mate or mates for him.

I am sorry about the loss of your goose. Sometimes it is very difficult to find out why an animal has died. The gander should be ok with the ducks, I would try and locate a supply of fertile eggs and when the next duck goes broody have her hatch and raise some replacements for your lost one. My geese only breed one season a year so you might have to wait until spring to get some eggs. You can put up to 6 goose eggs under a duck or chicken and get some success. Ducks are better as the ducks have a similar hatching time.
