Hey, could use some help figuring out what's going on here. This is Tree Bird. She refuses to sleep with the flock and has insisted on spending her nights in the birch tree in the front yard. We were fine with that until she started bug hunting in the neighbor's yard. They don't want our birds messing up their "perfect green carpet" and we try to respect that, especially since they don't complain about the rooster. So she had to be caught to have a wing clipped. While doing that, we noticed this. Couldn't find anything with a quick Google search, so here I am! Anyone have any ideas what this growth is and what (if anything) I should do about it?

Ah, gotta bring in the backup... I feel so bad because I always bother her on stuff I'm stumped on... @azygous? I'm sure you hate me because I always bother you 😂😅 Sorry!
I have not seen anything like this before.
It looks like there's a growth in/on her nare, it is swollen, not a normal looking nare, and it has a discharge. Is her other side clear, and she can breathe? I'm sorry for this, poor Tree Bird!

Given what @azygous suggested as possibilities, and that it sounds like no one has seen her close up for awhile, you could check her often and see if it continues to grow or the swelling diminishes. My (very basic, very little) understanding of fowl pox is there not much to do about it and it resolves on its own. A mosquito bite should resolve sooner. She could live with cancer for awhile if it is slow-growing. That will give your friend time to say her goodbyes. But if it impinges on her other nare or the breathing passages back there, or grows into her beak, then she'll be in some difficulty and distress. 😥

I agree it might be a bot fly weevil, but it looks a bit like pus. Nasal canker is a condition where feed, secretions, and dirt can become stuck in the nostril, and form a concrete-like consistency. I would get some help to hold her, wrapped in a towel like a burrito, and use some tweezers to try and see what it is. Let us know what you find.
