Ms. Clara my 3 yr. Old hen, has been in quarantine for several days given only acv water and grit. She's gagging alot of junk up with massaging. She's strong and active at this point but still a squishy crop. Last night at roost time I gave her a tablespoon of red wine. She went right to sleep. This morning she is empty. Now I am concerned about the yeast issue I've read about. (?) Also what exactly should her diet be now?
Do I keep her quarentined? Will she ever be able to scratch around the yard again? I'm full of questions and confusion with all the information out there. Any feedback for what steps are next is greatly appreciated. I feel like my Clara girl is starving. I'm in the third week of diagnosis and third day of quarantine.:idunno

Your post is contradictory. We need to know if Clara has an empty crop or still has a squishy crop. Could you verify that Clara's crop was empty this morning and not squishy? Is her crop squishy now as you wrote this?

Is her keel bone sharp and pronounced to lead you to believe she's starving? What is the consistency and color of her poop? If it's not green and runny, she likely isn't starving yet.

If she has a yeast infection in her crop, the crop will fill again with liquid pretty quickly and feel squishy. If the crop remains empty and flat all day, she probably does not have sour crop.

If her woes are limited to crop issues, she isn't contagious and doesn't need to be quarantined.

Sorry about confusion, Clara's crop was full and squishy last night , smell was sour. This morning it wasnt as full but still squishy. Haven't seen any poop today at all.
I don't want her eating until the infection is cured do I? Also I dont see signs of starvation, I'm just worried.

If her breath is "sour" & still squishy I'm thinking she's got a sour crop but I'm not experienced with illnesses. This is what I have in my notes for Sour Crop - Ketoconazole, Nystain, Monistat, lotrimine, miconazole; 1/4” 2x day for 7 days .... If her crop was not emptying then I'd suspect Impacted Crop - Coconut oil & massage

Should her crop be empty before giving monistat? I can get that today asap. Also, if I put her back with the others won't she refill her crop, or should she? I only quarantine her to keep her from the others food and such.

The anti-yeast treatment will work on stopping the yeast from multiplying. Until it wacks the yeast sufficiently, the crop will remain squishy. Most hens with yeast infections begin to feel better within a day or two, and they will feel like eating again as they start to feel better.

Your patient will select the things that appeal to her so offer her a variety of things, such as boiled egg, dry crumbles, grated carrot, and yogurt. Also, a probiotic will make her feel better faster as it establishes a good flora in her intestines and crop.

Ms. Clara is hanging in there. She's now back with the others, I did vomit her early this morning and gave her 1/4" monistat afterwards. With in a half hour I could see her perk up. She's pooing white but it's runny. She's drinking but not so interested In foods yet. Although I seen her go for a spider so, that's great! Thanks for all the great advice. i will try and post a daily update on her this week. :)
