What the heck? I'm starting to guess that between the hot weather and I'm not sure what else could be wrong.
They eat an organic layer feed, there is usually oyster shell available although sometimes they knock it down and spill it so they are out till we get it back up again, they have water that is changed out every few days,

I don't know if I should be worried about some infection or disease or just let it go as a weird occasional occurrence.
I do get the occasional cracked egg or sandpaper egg and sometimes there are tons of sandpaper bumps on the pointy end of the egg.
Other than that, life is good and I love my chickens and encourage everybody and anybody to get them!!

As far as

Yup, the wrinkled part was really soft until it was sitting in the air for awhile, then it hardened.

People sometimes get weird eggs, I don't think it means anything unless your hen is acting unwell, otherwise I think I wouldn't worry.

Wow that's a really weird one!!
As long as it a one off, I wouldn't worry not much you can do anyway.
If it happens regularly, might need more research...but if only one hen does it, probably genetic defect.

Should go in the weird egg thread for posterity:

How thick is the egg shell after hardening? It almost looks like to much calcium/grit (not sure if that's possible). It looks way to thick even on top the way it layers and bumps.

400
this is how big it was compared to our other eggs. I've been getting a lot of eggs with the holes in the end. It's been so hot this summer. So the dogs have been getting the broken eggs with their breakfast this summer. They are happy happy dogs
