Hi all.. My quail has been acting weird told every other quail.. except her boyfriend.
there's a little bucket, turned on side so they can go in it, and she has decided she owns it. She pecks at any other girl that comes near her, and SCREECHES at the other boy when he just walks past it. I do not believe she has laid yet. She is not broody... because whenever Another girls comes in it without her noticing.. she chases them while screaming and pecking them.

Why could she be doing this?

I had an old plastic rectangle planting box, about 30 inches x 8 inches, I cut a big rectangle out of the side, and now it’s a quail hotel lol. It replaced the 2 small amazon boxes I had given them. It rains too much for the cardboard, I don’t get enough packages shipped to me to put new in every few days and still have boxes to sell chicks in, so I dug around the yard and basement for cheap permanent solutions. Old storage bins, laundry baskets, cinder blocks are a favorite for my birds, flower pots and 4 inch pvc tubes and connectors are all good choices.

I also use cheap plastic bins from the dollar store. They're plastic so they withstand rain, and they're thin, so you can cut entrances into them easily. I think the quail also like that the sides aren't completely solid, so they can hide in them but still see out.

I have a laundry basket they like to watch out from haha, I’ll have to check out the dollar store, when I lived in Brooklyn there were so many Asian Run dollar stores that had way better stuff than crappy dollar general out here in the burbs, plus they would tell me if they had stuff they knew I liked just come in and I happened to walk past (it’s very common to have someone sitting outside to watch the merch on the sidewalk) the great shopping options for junk I turn into useful stuff are the only things I miss about the city. I bought all our hamster supplies there, I made all the hamster wheels and hides from dollar store supplies and they were better and stronger than stuff you get professionally at pet stores. A $20 hot knife has saved me hundreds over the years.
