I use the Red Lakes DE. It also has minerals in it. I give it to my 11 year old dobe with arthritis. It seems to help her. She moves around better when taking it.
I understand your thinking about removing toxins, it will absorb them. I don't know, just try it!

Everybody probably eats some of it. It's put into our grain supplies to prevent weevils, from what I understand. So, every time you have something with wheat or corn flour you're ingesting some DE.
I have read several posts on BYC where individuals say they put DE in their animal food including dogs, goats, cows, chickens, etc. for preventing internal parasites. Several have also claimed to eat it as a supplement with good results.
I wish I could remember who the advocates were so we could get their input on this, but I suffer from CRS, so it's a long shot that I'll be able to pull that out of the memory banks.
So, I guess that's the weird answer for your 'weird question'.

i took DE for a couple of months just to see what effects it had, it lower my high blood pressure about 10 points, with no side effects. i mixed 1 tablespoon of DE with a glass of water once daily. i quit taking it only because the doctor changed my medication

LOL I suffer from CRS too! But I do remember that there are many studies out "proving" that it does not control parasites. And one that I know of that "proves" it does. Many also mention that groups of chickens fed DE have better feed to meat conversion, lay larger eggs, and eat more generally than the control groups. This doesn't prove beyond doubt that it's beneficial, but I don't think enough is known about DE to make an absolute call one way or the other as far as other effects go.
