Do the eggs need to be able to roll around while they hatch? I have two pipping, and it seems like they are the ones in the middle of all the eggs.....just wondering!

I just hatched 14/16 the other day rolling all over the place, the last two had quit about a week prior. It won't hurt them. I have another batch in and yet again, rocking and rolling like crazy. They'll be fine though

From some of the pictures of incubators filled with eggs that I've seen here on BYC, they will probably do just fine being stuck in the middle. I only had 6 in mine and in all honesty, they really didn't move all that much while they were zipping.

They don't need to be able to roll around. Lots of people do carton hatches, where the eggs are placed fat end up in egg cartons at lockdown, specifically to stop them rolling around come hatching time. I've had good results with the cartons and with the eggs lying on their sides and rolling round...

I finally realize now what people mean when they say the hatched chicks all but play football with the other eggs in the 'bator....this is nuts!

My hatched chicks are sitting on the unhatched eggs, bumping into them, cuddling with them, talking to them. It's really pretty funny to watch them all. It seems the hatched ones go to the next-to-hatch egg. It's like they are telling the hatching chick what they need to do to get out of the shell! My first hatched chick immediately picks on the newly hatched chick, setting the pecking order.
