Long story short:
2 Indian Runner eggs went into the incubator at the same time. One was fresh from outside, another was one we collected earlier and stored in fridge. Today is Day 29. Fresh egg duck pipped yesterday, zipped today and is doing fine. Fridge duck - no pipping yet. We candled (yes, even on lockdown) and see movement. Is it possible it may take a few more days for fridge duck to pip and zip?

Yes, sometimes they can take a bit longer to hatch. As long as you continue to see movement inside the egg, the duck is alive and should hatch soon!

My husband is getting antsy and wants to do an emergency hole in the air sac. Part of me says wait and see, the other part agrees with my husband. But, what happens if you make an emergency hole and it hasn't internally pipped yet? I can't tell it it has or not.

You can do a safety hole in the shell on the aircell end. Just be quick as you can & get it back in the incubator right after & make sure your incubator comes back up to proper humidity.

It will be fine if it has not internally pipped as long as you get it back in the incubator quickly.

Perfect, thank you. When I got home this afternoon, I found that it had finally pipped. Now we need to wait to see when she'll zip. Ducks can be such lazy hatchers, sometimes!

Yup they take their time.

I’m currently waiting one 2 that externally pipped at the small end of the egg.

Good news, fridge duck hatched this morning and is doing ok. Very weak, so I gave water with vitamins. Very unstable on her feet, but will keep an eye on her.. Ok, so new question/concern. I introduced the newly hatched duck to the one that hatched already. She is pecking pretty hard at the other's beak, so I separated them with a clear pane so they can still see each other. Im curious to see if they'll start to get along once the other gets a little stronger.

1 of the ducklings I had that pipped on the wrong end came out super weak too. It perked up eventually & now I don’t even know which one it was.

The others were doing the same to every new duckling that came out. It can seem rough but the novelty wears off & they stop bothering each other.

Great news about your "wrong end" ducklings. I've never had one pip at the wrong end. Did you have to assist? I went to Tractor Supply this morning and got some niacin for both ducks. I figured it can't hurt. If the weaker one has a niacin deficiency, this should help. I allowed both of them some free roaming time in the house this morning. Older one kept going after the younger ones feet and still pecking. I'm sure they'll grow out of it, eventually. Still keeping them mostly separated for the time being unless under direct supervison.
