My chickens are guarded by a lgd. I noticed recently that he has fleas. I got him flea pills but now I am wondering if the chickens would eat the fleas that die from getting poisoned by the flea pills. Would this, in turn, poison the chickens?
Can't find any info on this so tia!

I would be more worried about them eating the fleas because fleas can contain tapeworm larvae.

Could you keep your dog separated from the chickens for a day or two until the fleas are long gone?

Oh, and welcome to BYC, btw! :frow

Good point! I hadn't thought about the tapeworm aspect :/
We've been blessed and haven't had to deal with him having fleas before. Unfortunately I can't separate him as he doesn't get along with my other dogs and he's a big boy! I shouldn't worry about the chickens getting poisoned by the flea meds then?

That I do not know and couldn't find either, but check the box of whatever you're giving him. Sometimes their website will say.

Here's an example for fly poison. PT-Alpine is a spray that you put just a small squirt on each wall out of chicken's reach. The flies die. They actually say the dead flies are safe for the chickens.

I wouldn't think that the miniscule amount of poison in a flea would hurt a chicken for one thing. And secondly, chickens are typically attracted to MOVING bugs, not dead ones. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
