Weird question?

I have a beautiful brown leghorn named cinnamon who is (I think) 17 weeks and has just started laying. I have always been very hands on with my chickens so they enjoy a pat and a scratch under the chin however lately she has been squatting and putting her bum in the air! Almost if she's presenting for sex!?! Is this even possible? I just give her a scratch above the tail and she shakes herself off!

It's the 'squat', and yes it is an invitation to the rooster to mate her. You are the object of her affections.

perfectly normal. a few, not all, of my girls have done the 'squat' for me if i pet them whenever they were at the onset of lay. some still do it. it's a good thing
