Weird sac on chicken neck

It looks like a tumor or an abscess to me.

Is this something you think I should lance or drain? Its been almost two weeks. The other one went away aside from a small bump. I was kind of hoping this would do the same.... but I know she misses her flock. Sadly a vet isnt an option atm.

thanks for you help!!

The yellow toward the bottom of the sac looks like there could be fat inside. Sebaceous cyst could be possible. Hamartomas are a type of tumor on the skin that is not malignant. Here is a little about those. https://www.merckvetmanual.com/inte...erview-of-tumors-of-the-skin-and-soft-tissues
Let us knowwhat you find or if you decide to let a vet check it.

Thanks again Eggcessive, for all of the help and link! After reading through that page it does sound similar in nature... however it sounded like a cyst would form over a matter of time (if not mistaken). This seemed to develop quickly.

Being that we just got a snow storm Ill probably give it another day or so... and then perhaps try to drain it?? Sadly atm a vet isnt an option.

Thanks again for taking the time to help!

UPDATE: we cleaned up the sac and tried to lance it.... after watching a few different chicken lancing videos to prepare ourselves.

We started to cut into the area that looked more like the material weve seen removed from other birds ( the yellow part of the mass). We were able to cut about 1/4 inch into it... and it all looked like fat…. but definitely connected to the exterior of the mass .would not squeeze out of the mass. Was much like cutting into the fat on a steak. We cut a little past the yellow part to see if we could get behind it and it bled more than we were expecting … but nothing really came out of it otherwise.

After inspecting it really well we definitely think the exterior of this is not her skin. In other words... whatever this sac is popped out through a hole in her skin. (perhaps a duck injured her? and this mass herniated from inside.

Now my question..... since we were unable to drain anything from the sac and were concerned about loss of blood if we dug into it anymore.... our next thought was could we put a castration band on it and hope that it cuts the circulation to the mass and falls off ???? The point at which this comes out of her skin is roughly the diameter of a pencil.

I hate to keep asking questions but we are at a loss... and don't want to hurt her more. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for taking the time to help!!! <3

That is nasty looking. Cutting it off by loss of circulation is something I have not ever done, but I know other cycens will Peck such a strange looking thing if left.
