Het all ...my chickens are doing something and I have not seen them do it before...when I bend down to pet them they do this squatting thing....they squat down and put their wings back as if you or I would put our elbows backwards and they just stay there...they used to scamper away but now they stay...I heard of this egg laying squat but they are a bit young for that...new to this as these are my first six hens. only 16 weeks Mon. 2 RR, 2BR, 2PR...thanks if you can help me with this behavior.

Congratulations!! They are submitting to you so you could, erhm...climb aboard! They see you as the roo, so, it's a signal they're ready to mate.

It also indicates you'll be getting eggs any day now!

Some more utilitarian breeds mature early. I had sever BR lay at 16 & 17 weeks. My Wellies hit the deck for a month before they actually lay, and my Marans never really seem to do it. It varies.

Looks like you already got your answer, but yup, all hens do this.
