Good evening,
One of my ladies laid an egg with this inside. It is an inch long, relatively soft and cream in colour. The rest of the egg appeared normal. A chalaza was present and can also be seen in the photo. Hettie has laid a few fairy eggs of late as well as regular eggs. Any ideas what this might be please and is there any actions I should be taking. Many thanks, Paul.

@Holmesp50 Was this a fairy egg too?
Did it have a full yolk in it?
If you get another one:
Pic of intact egg, with a quarter for scale.
Pic of entire contents..... would be good.
Could be some 'lash'(infection).
Cutting that chunk in half would be good too.

@aart the egg seemed normal in all other respects - size, colour, single yolk etc. So normal it was about to go in a pan when it was noticed.

Attached is the chunk cut in cross section next to a 5 cent coin for sizing. The outer 'casing' was quite tough. The inside when squeezed out looked like egg white.

She laid twice since, the first with a mis-shappen shell but otherwise seemingly ok, the second egg was normal. But if I do get another will definitely photograph in its entirety.

The fairy eggs were laid just over a week ago there were several of them but they were not laid consecutively, normal eggs were also laid.

Thanks Paul

Great pics!
These all came from the same bird?
Doesn't look like a typical 'lash', but I suspect that's what it is.
Hopefully the others tagged come along and chime in.

The pics are all of the same chunk, just dissected. If this is a lash will my bird need treating or precautions taken to prevent future occurances?
