Weird ? - what would make a package of sausage blow up?

Now, this is only an opinion, but in my freezer that happens a LOT.

It might be ice, you know, from water processing. And you said that you could still hear it moving around; ice does that.

I freeze Jimmy Dean Sausage at times and it never expands at all. After thoroughly reading your post it seems pretty obvious there is no cow involved so it must be Imp's fault.

Hum.......I think you should make Imp open it outside. You should be there as a witness but please use mask, gloves, protective clothing and by all means you need your best track shoes on and a clear get away path. I would be suspicious of a snake since they expand when they swallow their food whole. That would also explain the rattling noise you heard at first.
