Welarans, Welsummer x Marans

Just wanted to add some photos of our black french maran and welsummer crosses. We took over caring for our flock so these were a happy accident. The black maran had gone broody during the take over period and I didn't have the heart to stop her.

The little black one hatched a week later than the other 2.

This is them at 4 months old. Any ideas on sex would be great as I am learning and would really appreciate what to look for as I am driving myself crazy trying to decide.

I think chick 1 is a cockeral as he is a bit bigger than the other 2 and looks like the welsummer cockeral we have. He also seems more confident and outgoing.

I keep swinging between 1 hen 2 cockerals or 2 hens 1 cockeral. Knowing my luck I probably have 3 cockerals

The 5 chipmunk striped chicks are our 3 day old Black Copper Marans (dad) and Welsummer crosses. Interestingly, they are so much fluffier than our other chicks!

I chose to hatch the same mix. Black copper marans rooster to my welsummer hen. She’s got beautiful eggs with speckles and he is from a strong line of dark layers so I hope to get beautiful eggs. I only incubated four and so far only two have hatched today. The other two are quiet so that may be it. Was just looking for pictures or info on this mix as well.

I plan on breeding my Black Copper Maran Rooster to my 2 Welbar hens... I am not sure of what the outcome will be.

if both of your breed are pure you should get Golden cuckoos cockerels ( all ) and all the pullets will be impure black copper with some mossiness ( they black featheres will not be pure black ,will be rusty looking ) the eggs should be dark enough .
