you know, things always look so much worse when you dont get enough sleep, it seems to take away our ability to cope with stress. Im happy for you for having a DH like you do, I have one of them too, and I tg everyday for him. Sick kids and a parent needing help like yours are a sure bet for car trouble!! I used to have a saying on my fridge "Motherhood Isnt For Wimps" so true, hope next day is much better.

I gotta join this pity party too. Last Thursday I was driving to the credit union and my truck's battery light came on in the message center, then it spit and sputtered, then everything was normal. As I drove around to the credit union's drive through, my truck died. I managed to pull over to the side out of everyone's way. I put the truck in park and tried to start it up. It would crank, but not start. I walked into the credit union, took care of business, then called DW to come and get me. I told her which credit union I was at. I then called the Chevy dealer service department and told the guy what happened. He said he'd call a wrecker and take care of everything. I walked back out to my truck and sat there for 2 hours. I couldve walked home in that amount of time. I then proceeded to go back into the credit union to call DW again when I spotted her car coming, at the same time the wrecker was coming from the opposite direction. The guy driving the wrecker got my truck loaded and off he went to the dealership. Then DW drives around and I asked her where had she been. She stated she went to the other credit union that we do business with there as well. She had misunderstood what I had said. Since I dont have a cell phone, she had no way to contact me. So she went to the Chevy dealer and asked the guy in the service department where the wrecker was going to get my truck. (I'm glad I told her this on the phone)
An hour later I got a call from the service department and he said they had to replace the crank sensor...$208!!!!!! He also said I needed a starter because it was dragging abit. He was correct about the starter dragging, I had noticed it as well. But I never heard of a "crank sensor." I asked the service guy how much a starter is, he stated a GM Delco starter is $450!!!! I about fell out of my chair!!! He stated that I should go buy one myself at an auto parts store because it would be cheaper. I asked him how come he couldnt do that. He stated that the Chevy dealer would have to jack up the price to make their profit. Hmmmm, makes sense I thought. I told him, ok, I'll go buy one. I called around to 3 different auto parts stores and they were all around the same price, almost $300, including core charge. I went with O'reilly's because their's had a lifetime warranty and that's where I purchased the starter. I called around to a couple of reliable shops I know to find out how much they'd charge to install a starter on my truck. One place stated $92, another stated $95, the final place stated $91. Sheesh. I called the Chevy service department and told the service guy about these prices to install the starter, he said he'd do it for $90. I told him to do it, sure enough he did, and no tax neither. Oh yeah, I had to pay $75 for the towing too. I got my truck back an hour later and it starts and runs perfect. I took my old starter back to O'reilly's and was reimbursed $37 for the core charge. But at what a price this fiasco was! That hurt my wallet badly. Darn near $650!!! I dont want no pity...I'm just whining! (I appreciate the Chevy service guy telling it like it is.)

Oh man Dawg!

We are lucky - one the the master mechanic guys for a big dealership is our good friend, and DH does tree work for him often. He's got a complete shop with hydraulic hoist and every tool, and he purchases the parts at discount for us, and usually charges about $50 in labor, no matter what it is. We pay cash up front to him.

chickensducks&agoose - Stats? Maaaaaan.....
