I am a first time chicken mama (as an adult). Our new babies will be here sometime next week. We have a mix of brown-egg layers, and Aracaunas coming...32 total. I used to stay with my great-grandmother during summers and she and grand-daddy had several chickens, ducks, bunnies, and horses. Every since I was little, I wanted to live somewhere that I could have animals, a garden, and occasional peace and quiet...and a gaggle of children. We bought this property 2 years ago and are slowly getting things in place. We live on nearly 7 acres, with a barn and plenty of wide open space. ;o)
We have 4 kids; ages 9-17. they spend their summers and weekends at their papaw's place raising and caring for goats, chicks, dogs...and horses. They like it so much that I finally am bringing some of that home!
