Well, hey, Y’all! I’m super new here!

Hiya! :frow My name’s Lindsey. I live in Louisiana with my husband, 2 kids (4.5 y/o girl & almost 2 y/o boy), 1 Red Doberman & 1 adopted Domestic Short haired cat, and now a handful of chicks!

I’ve wanted to have chickens for a LONG time, and now I’m finally getting my chance at it!!

At this time I’ve got 2 Orpingtons (1 Buff, 1 Lavender), 2 Cochins (Gold laced, I believe), 2 Brahma (1 Buff, 1 Light), 1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Welsummer, 1 Polish (Blue, I’m thinking), and 2 -what I was told- Ameraucana (although after lurking on BYC I’m believing they’re actually EEs.. sad day.).

I’ve chosen the name CackleShack as my username because that’s what I call our coop.

Anyway, I am excited to have finally joined the community! And I look forward to soaking up all your knowledge, and maybe even making a new friend or two!

:frow Hi and welcome! CackleShack is an awesome name and handle! I'm sure you'll have a great time here and will really enjoy your chooks. Even your EE - I love all of mine, even when they get under my feet and trip me up, the big goofs!

Hello, Lindsey, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
The thing about roosters guarding flocks is they are really only physically capable of guarding against other roosters and not much else. They can stand on look out and sound an alarm but having one in your flock isn't going to stop predation. They are great to have IMO and each bird is unique and you should never assume that a bird will have a predefined personality based on it's breed. Believe me, I know. The Salmon Faverolle is touted as being an exceptionally gentle rooster with a mild disposition. Someone should sit my boy down and explain all this to him.

HAHA! Much like people, I suppose they don’t necessarily follow the rules. :lau

I believe I have one EE cockerel, who was supposed to be a sexed pullet. I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep him, as much as I’d love, love, love to. I live just outside city limits, and my neighbors likely won’t take kindly to the noises of a roo. One day though.. one day I will own acres and I’ll have have as many as I darn well please!!
