Ok, I know some will say.... YOUR NUTS!! But, I just have to try. Here is the story.

Back in March, we ordered our Cornishx.....well...for one reason or another, 3 never made it to the freezer. They seem to be doing ok, even in the heat. Fans fans fans. Well....2 of them started laying eggs. Smallish at first, then a little larger. They are a tan colored egg. Well....because I have no way to seperate them, for now....my Buff Orp Roo has been breeding them. So, I decided...to incubate a few of the eggs. I set 8 of them on the 17th. I know its only been 6 day....but I just had to know. So, I candled them last night. 7 of the 8 are viable.....I am sorta excited to see what comes out of these. ( DH is a smarty pants, said....well, chickens of course) 15 days to go!!!

LOL

that's exactly what my DH told me last night when I candled. I said "I can't wait to see what comes out of these!!" He got this look like how many times do I have to tell you.... "Chickens I'm sure" he said. I'd hope....otherwise we are going to be overrun with cats hatching from eggs

May even be billionaires then

Here's hoping you have a good hatch and can't wait to see pics!!

I hope you have sucess in hatching the eggs. It will be interesting to see how they turn out. With the buffs genes maybe they will be alot healthier than the cornish x. Keep us posted ok?

Ohhhhh, trust me!! You all will get tired of hearing about these ones I am sure. I am sooo excited!! DH is not....he said.. " ok, these are from meat birds, so we are going to butcher them...right?" Im sure the look on my face said it all! LOL

Not MY babies!!!!!!

LOL ....You go to all the trouble to keep the chickens long enough to get eggs, you collect the eggs and put them in the incubator, you spend 21 days trying not to candle too often, you hatch them, fall in love with the chickies and butcher them? Yeah Right !

You Rock,

good luck with the hatch,

Kim

LOL, thanks Kim....I am hopeing they will be big fat hens! LOL But....I was told by an OLD chicken farmer......

the later in the year you or the hen sets eggs, the more likely they will be Roos.

Oh, and I was going to ask ya Kim....did ya go to the swap?? How was it!?? How many did ya come home with!?? LOL

Deb,

I did go to the swap. Unfortunately the guineas I wanted to pick up for us while I was up there were already gone. (I am sorry) I will put prices to give you an idea of the savings

My sister and daughter and I went.

We got

6 Standard Cochins pullet 20.00 mine
2 Guinea Keets (expensive there) 8.00 mine
2 Mandarin Ducks 41.00 mine
1 aussie/heeler puppy 30.00 sister
1 green cheeked conure 175.00 sister
2 bird cages 70.00 sister
2 emperor scorpions 15.00 daughter

I consider it a day well spent ....not to mention the fact that we laughed and giggled the whole time.
