Well I guess Colonel Bok Bok has the pox!

Thank y'all so much! Avian pox (from what I've read) start off as white pussy bumps then turn to black scabs. He's never had white bumps so I think that's not it.

You know what... I never thought of that but I bet you're right.
Tracey- You could try putting some roll on fly repellent (for horse's ears) on his comb and see if that helps. If it goes away, it's probably the knats and no-see-ums.

Hi all! Just joined, looks like a great place!

We have 6 hens, one of them recently developed what looks exactly like the pox from the pictures in a previous post:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/LC-diseases-AvianPox.html , and it looks like it's starting in another now...

I read that egg production decreases, but is that only while they have it? Does it go back up once they recover?

Thanks!

My rooster Franklin has those, too, but I think there are just insect bites. I see gnats on his comb all the time and he's not at all sick. My last rooster Chicklen had them too, so maybe it's just a rooster thing? The hens come and peck them off, and he puts his head down where they can reach it.
