Decided today that with coaching two soccer teams with practice four days a week and games on Saturdays, hunting seasons starting, needing more time to fish with my kids, its time for me to downsize the birds on my farm. I love the little quail, but i dont have much use for the eggs that i am getting everyday, so they go to waste. Its been a lot of fun and a lesson learned. The people on this forum are some of the best around and have provided an unlimited wealth of knowledge to myself and others. I am not going to get completely out of quail though.

I have learned enough on feeding/watering/care/incubating/brooding to move on to wild types of quail like Valleys, Blue Scale and Gambels, something to present me more of a challenge and something that doesnt require cleaning pens or being hands on much, and definitley a breed of quail that doesnt lay an egg everyday all year long!!!

The feed bill is also growing larger than anticipated, im going through 3 bags of flock raiser every week between the ducks, turkeys (soon to be slaughtered), 50+ chickens (soon to be cut WAY down), guineas and 50+ quail (soon to be in the smoker). Thats $130+ dollars a month in feed............more then i want to spend at this time!!

So, happy trails to all of you and thank you for everything!!...........Jason

Jason,
Just sent you an email, I don't mind taking a guess from the young ones you still have and take some more off your hand, before the rest have to go to the smoker.

My cage can still hold a few more.

Somehow I missed this one...I wondered where Jason has been, we used to have fun talking quail. Guess I gotta go over to the duck forum... ; )
