well im gonna lose all my things *rant*

hey there, I live in florida and aam looking for a used grocery getter for my dh. I may possibly be able to help you out. PM or email me

Go to a pawn shop:

pawn the flag for collateral

pawn all jewelry for collateral

pawn TV's for collateral

Pawn PlayStations/Wii's, etc... for collateral.

if you dont pick them up, they get to keep the items.

You can come up with $300.00 of items for a pawn shop between you, your siblings and your mother I'm quite certain.

If the flag means that much to you out of all the other things - then get the flag out of hock once you get your items out of storage and pay the fees.

In order to pay BACK the pawn shop for the items you put on collateral - go through the items in the storage unit and sell what items you no longer need (like the car...) and get all the items BACK from the pawn shop that way.

Collateral and out-right pawning an item are 2 different things: You can put an item on collateral and get $$ that you need if the pawn shop agrees it is worth the $$ upfront, they will loan it to you with a fee attached, with a promisory note that you must repay the loan in such and such days. If you dont, you lose all items. Outright SELLING of items is just that - you sell your items directly for cash to the pawn shop and do not get the back.

I'd go for option 1 of collateral if you can.

I've never pawned anything but I do have friends that own pawn shops, so I know how it works.

Good luck!

ETA: This is NOT the same thing as a "PAY DAY LOAN" DO NOT DO THAT EVER.

i didnt go to the storage owners i called em because ive been so sick lately, they said they cant do that. and said if we let people just go into their storage and let them get what ever they want to sell how do we know your not getting whats important out of it and you dont care if the rest goes how do we know you will use the money for paying us. it made me so angry i just said politely thank you and good bye and then just cried my eyes out

and ive been looking around my house for things so far ive got the flag, a tv, a bunch of books i dont know if they will sell but im going to try and some jewlery

The situation is unfortunate, however, the way i understand it and i've been to a few storage unit sales, is that when they sell your stuff they only get to keep the money you owe them plus, expenses, ( the auctioneer, advertising, etc.) By law, any money left over has to be put into escrow in the name of the renter. Perhaps there will be some overage coming to you, especially if the car brings alot. You could attend the sale, keep close track of what everything sells for, who buys what, ie, the pics and personal stuff. Then approach the buyer of said personal stuff and use the overage as a barganing chip to buy your personal stuff back. The buyer doesn't want your pics and if you get his phone number, you could maybe buy the stuff back real cheap at a later date. Just trying to help. Good Luck Woody

Ok, So I Didn't go through all 7 pages but Here it goes.

I am the bad Guy here, I wish I could Give you advice on how to keep your belongings, But I am a Self Storage Manager and know that there are no loop holes. The best advice I can give is to look up the Lien Laws in your state and try to find where they may have skipped a step. For instance I just sent out a stack of Lein Notices, but forgot on one unit to send out a Notice the the guys alternate address, here in Cali the law states that I have to send notice to All addresses I have on file for the person in Lien, so now I have to send out a Pre-Lien Notice and a Lien Notice to the alternate Address before I can send it to Auction, I have to give the person 2 weeks between notices to pay, so he gets another 4 weeks to come up with the money. If they skipped a step, it won't stop the Lien, just Prolong it giving you extra time to come up with them money.

As for pictures and Stuff, you may ask your storage manager to pass along that you would be willing to come pick up pictures and personal items that are not replaceable, if the Auction winner would just set them aside. I sold a unit about 2 months ago, and the auction winner left me a box full of pictures, albums, Social Security cards, and any personal belongings to give back to the owner, she still hasn't picked them up, but I have them here all the same.

Sadly the way all self storages work is if the bill is not paid withen 14 days of the due date, they can put you into Lien, the process usually takes 6 weeks or more, here in California, I have to send out a Pre-Lien Notice, wait 2 weeks, send out a Lien Notice, wait 2 weeks, put an ad in the paper giving notice of the auction date, wait 2 weeks, then Aucton it.

Also, the Storage Company does not make money off the Auctions, if somehow a Unit was to sell for more than the amount owed (Very Unlikley), the Company can take the amount owed, but must keep the money over the amount owed to give to the unit owner, and if the owner does not claim it after 1 year it goes to the state, at least that is how it works in California.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions, I know I am kinda the Bad Guy, but it's my job, I still feel bad about people loosing their belonging, but just like everybody else I have to do my job.

DO NOT DO THIS! It really would put you into a lot of trouble. Its considered Breaking and Entering, and vandlism, as well as theft, it won't be a slap on the wrist.

Im sorry youre haveing such a hard time ,
The only advice I have for you might be a bit hard to swallow.
Do youre best to come up with the money but there isnt any reson to stress about it , I mean if you can live weeks or months or years with something in a cardboard box you dont really need it anyways .
If something Is SOOOO important to you because it belonged to youre grand mother or great grand father ect that you just cant live without it , its likey to not be stuck ina box somewhere ether.
Dont stress youreself and youre whole family to peiaces and go thru horrible ordeals and get youre self into hock trying to save things you probly havent seen much less thought about in good ness knows how long.
Good luck

Oh and ps , you could always save up some money and go to the acution and buy youre picture back , if there really important to you. NO one else is likely to want them

Again Check the Laws, here in Cali any items that pertain to the Depratment of Motor Vehicles can not be included in a storage sale, if they open it an see a car, they must do a seperate Vehicle Lien through the DMV. even if it's hidden and the Auction winner finds it later, it is illeagal for them to remove it.
