Well, it finally happened...

Went out to feed up all the chooks this a.m. and discovered that something went in through the nesting box and killed my pair of Seramas...I am thinking it had to be a raccoon since they had to lift the lid on the nesting box, then pull it down and then over the stops to get access..doubt a fox could manage the 3 steps to get inside.
thankfully I have several eggs in the bator now and 2 frizzled roos that can get us going again if we get a smooth hen....yes, the leg trap is set now

Maybe you could try locking the nesting box? DH and I put a padlock on ours. It's a bit of a pain to have to remember where the key is, but without the lock raccoons could easily get in.
