My heart is broken 😔 we had 2 emus, 2 turkeys and 2 ducks out in our backyard and now we are down to 1 turkey and 2 emus due to a neighbor kid coming over and not latching a gate properly 😠 ITS A SIMPLE LATCH. Our dog Jake made it to our backyard while I was inside and killed 4 silkie roosters, 2 ducks AND a Turkey 😞I'm devastated.... not the dogs fault just stupid kids that are definitely old enough to know how to close a gate! This happened a couple days ago and it took me a while to even get to where I can post about it :( Please post pictures of your silkies to make me feel better!

I don't have any silkies, but here's a chicken:

Condolences on both the turkey and the ducks. Predator attacks are heart-wrenching, especially if they were preventable. I'm sorry for your losses. :hugs

I'm sorry.....................:hugs................I bet the kids feel really bad :hmm

I don't have a Silkie either but i have this little guy. A bantam frizzled naked neck.

They have left the gate open before and been talked to but they are plain disrespectful! I'm 17 and thought I could be a good influence on these kids but they have even stolen from us! It can't just be a kid thing? I have never acted this way I just dont understand 🤦‍♀️ oh well some never learn.

So sorry!
Dogs do what they do, and it sounds like padlocks on your gates, at minimum, are necessary.
If uninvited, it's trespassing, not a good thing. Have you talked with the parents? Is it possible to talk to them?
Better security for sure. What a miserable event!

So sorry he probably feels so bad if I were you if your door is just a regular swinging door I would put a simple spring on the door so I automatically closes a would latch we have what my kids have jokingly called the barn door to keep our dogs from being able to get into the bathroom and drink out of the toilet or turn on the tub water yes it is inside my house lol

My dogs love chicken too, and one of them killed over two dozen of our birds last spring, when our fencing failed. It was awful, and never to be repeated, we fervently hope.
It does sound like an uninvited visit, through a closed gate, not acceptable.

oh I didn't even give you a chicken pic I have the cutest bantam silkie and regular silkie roos I just rescued and my 3 crazy little bunnies
