Well that wasn't fun

My Dad's ground wasp remedy was gasoline down the hole, followed by a lit match. It worked fine in western PA, where the hillside was rotten with springs and you'd have had to really WORK to catch anything on fire.

That would only rarely be safe in my current area, where we have so many pines.
That's what my family used to do for fire ants when I lived in FL.

I'm originally from Western PA and that's exactly how my dad taught me how to deal with the ground nests. It must be a Western PA thing?😂

Fight fire with fire, I like it !!
Depending on where you live in florida though that could be a fire issue.... time of year too.

Gasoline has this nasty habit of VOOMing 50 feet out from the little hole you poured it into though so gotta be oh so careful!

Yeah, when we did this it was like 40 some years ago.
I'm sure now there are rules since "civilization" has happened. 😆

I walked by this giant bald faced hornet nest almost daily, even picked berries there and never once noticed it until hubby got stung. It became target practice and hundreds and hundreds came out in a black angry cloud. I swear they have facial recognition bc they went right for hubs who screamed while running away. Sorry he got stung several times but it was soooo funny. Oh, and the video is priceless :lau

Your poor husband. I would have had a heart attack. Anything with a stinger freaks me out.

Being stung by something that can kill you is funny? hmm, ill take a rain check on that one. Maybe not facial recognition but they CAN detect CO2, and will go for the face when they can. How far they chase you, ive seen them give up fairly fast and I have seen them chase someone almost a full block before they all finally gave up. I wonder if its the pheromes. If you smack one of them on you it releases pheromes which tell the others to ATTACK THIS !! Given if we get stung, our first instinct is to smack whatever it was that just got us, this can get very bad, very quickly.
