It has give, too. Like gel. Is this one step away from a shell-less egg? Should I do anything? I didn’t separate the hen that laid it.

Not sure there's anything you can do.
Has she had shelling issues before?
How old is she, how long laying, etc???
Any others in your flock having issues?

That is weird. Never seen anything like that. Is there any chance it was laid several hours ago and kind of dried out? I would not separate her for a strange egg, but I would keep track. This would be a tick on the cull list for me if it continues.

15 months old Golden Comet. They started laying this spring.
No similar issues from any of my birds ever before. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What was inside, normal or odd?
Only time will tell if it was a one off glitch or shell gland gone wrong.

I had a bird lay a highly calcified egg, but the shell was very thick.
She laid a few more normal eggs then another monstrosity, then she dropped dead.

Oh dear! I’m sorry.
I didn’t investigate the inside.
