Well this takes the cake.

I once sold a few ducks to a neighbor who lived almost a mile away. One of the ducks escaped and walked all the way back home. I figure a chicken could walk a few blocks. My chickens seem to walk way more every day than my ducks, so I could see them walking a mile.
Kinda like the cat came back.

Ok, I was out in the yard, I fed them all, yes I know NOT generally a good idea right before bed because of the poop factor to clean out the next morning but I wanted to make sure they all are eating.
The new one is very skittish, ate with the old flock and then, I swear, this thing turned around and just up and flew over the fence and away. She landed maybe 4 or 5 houses away. I mean like any normal bird, this thing just went up up and away. She's kind of walking back this way through the neighbors yards and stuff. Nothing scared her or chased her, of course the other ones grumble bitch and may nip at her new, but nothing that I could see to elicit that response.

Were going to have a problem here. THIS is going to get me in trouble. If I can catch her tonight after she roosts, assuming she's even in the area and I can find her I will have to clip her wings and put her in a cage for a week or so I am thinking to get her used to here and staying here. But then again, do I even want to? I mean she is seeming like she is going to be a problem child. One part of me wants to keep her if I can catch her again because I'll know she's safer and being fed properly, yet another part of me want's no part of the added drama and extra work she is going to create if this is the behavior she's going to have.

Oh brother.

PS I mean it was like scaring a blackbird or something, just up and away, generally my other chickens when they fly it's very clumsy, not this one.

and now this demon bird is right back in the yard. It was sitting on the fence looking in making a LOT of noise again, so I shook the fence and it landed in the yard. Itll be dark in about half hour tops, im going to try to get it at night time. This one might just end up in the cooking pot. I am not dealing with a psychopath cackler.

Even if you wing it on one side with the clippers, Im thinking they will still be pretty adept at flapping / hopping up places still? So, able to get out? What Im scared of is, this one giving the others bad ideas about hopping the fence. Yah, welcome to my private little hell.

You have quite the dilemma. And, my thought, what if someone is looking for her? Maybe you will see a missing chicken poster somewhere nearby. And what are the proper rules then?

I have a Whiting True Blue, she's identical to that bird. They aren't really friendly. I don't hold my chickens but the WTB don't like you even in their personal space. They aren't as bad as leghorns though, I'll say that...
Hmmmm, my WTB is my friendliest hen. She sat on my shoulder when she was little and wil hop on my lap now.

If she did belong to someone she'd be returned no questions asked, that's just the proper thing to do! I live in a somewhat rural setting so those who do have chickens around me, have a lot of them. Hmm IF I ever get my hands on her, maybe I can go ring a door bell and offer a trade, psycho ##tch for a nice calm egg layer :p

If she is an Americauna as suggested, are they normally this way behavior wise?

I don't have any experience with americaunas. So not sure. She just may be scared and out of her element. If you keep her she might turn out to be a nice chicken, a gift from the universe. Who knows... She is real pretty.

Im going to try to get her caged in and calmed down. I sure would like to keep her, she is a pretty color but if she's going to be screaming and crying all day, that could cause issues with the neighbors. ie NO roosters or girls who want to act like one!!
