WELL WATER?

idunno.gif
Why not bottle up your well water and sell it as healthy mineral water? Likely way over 90% of the bottled water on your neighborhood grocery store shelves starts life at the bottling plant as well or tap water.

The only limit to your claims is now fertile your imagination is.

Although it has not hurt me or my animals, ever,
my well water is not tested, nor monitored, as sold bottled water and supplied municipal water is...

For that reason, I will "drink" bottled water at home.
I have no issues with cooking or any other tasks, including giving it to my birds.

As I said, the extra iron will do no harm.

Secondary drinking water contaminants do not pose health risks to humans at levels usually found in water.
Iron is more a nuisance, creating unsightly staining.

Thank you!!!

My flock gets water straight from the well. Their supply doesn't go through the water softener/conditioner, it seemed unnecessary considering they almost prefer to drink from a muddy puddle than clean water from a nipple.

We use our well water...it's been tested and we drink it. Other than a plethora of calcium and magnesium as well as some excess iron, it's just water. It's also delicious! I have to scrub the waterers more often with the lime deposits, but once it cools off I'll add some apple cider vinegar to the water so that should help.

We use a water softener, an iron filter, and a whole house filter, our water is so saturated with iron, we also run our drinking water through reverse osmosis filters, sound like over kill, but it's what we have to do, I use the softener water on plants, animals and keep a few aquariums, so don't let people say you can't use it, because I have seen no problems in any of my animals.
That's good to know. I will be getting our flock started soon and wondered. Our water is full of iron and manganese. The ground here is solid coastal rock formations along the Atlantic. We have a softener, iron filter and a uv system and the water still is rust coloured in some months of the year. I will try it out when we get our pullets. I just wanted to make sure there is no health risk for the birds. Its safe for us to drink but I wasn't sure about the chickens. Thanks for sharing your experience :)

I have well water for the house, and if it's good enough for people I'm sure it is good enough for animals. But I use a rain barrel for my chickens, because I don't want to have to carry water or run a hose all the way to the coop. The rain barrel is fantastic. I drop a tiny bit of chlorine tablet or bleach in it once a month or so to keep algae out. Likewise, I've recently started using ACV to keep algae out of the chicken water.

I do get that pink stuff in my sink and shower. What is that, a Bacteria? Does it mean I should put bleach in my well?
Just an idea… you could use Chlorine Dioxide tablets instead of chlorine. It’s readily available on Amazon, pretty cheap & not at all harmful… in fact quite positive health effects in the bodies of humans as well as chickens.
Chloride Dioxide (CD) is a rather large rabbit hole to go down for alternative health, but it is quite encouraging! There is a free documentary about it called “The Universal Antidote”. I hope everyone watches it. Comes with a giant pdf (for free) of all the research that backs up the claims in the documentary.
