Well, we were without electricity for about 20 hours...

My precious eggs got down to 91 degrees. Too cold.

I was able to get them back up so they were not down all that time, maybe a couple of hours. I candled a few of them. I did find some still moving in their shells, but also found some that I am pretty sure are goners, although I am going to let them stick it out just to see. We are on, let's see, maybe day 12. So this is just a terrible shame, and this was going to be a wonderful hatch with almost all of them viable.

I am just trying to be happy about the ones who do still look good.

The ones that look good--does anyone know if they are likely to be ok, or if they might be injured in any way?

I guess I'll know when they hatch, if they do, but I'd like thoughts.

Darn, darn, darn.

This is the awful MidAtlantic storm. We have elctricity now, but it could get worse. The tree branches are already weighed down with snow, and it is supposed to get VERY cold tonight, so I would not be surprised if more tree branches break off and land on electric lines.

I was just so happy with this batch of eggs.

Any thoughts appreciated.

They should be fine if they are early in incubation, like the first two weeks. The hatch rate may be a bit lower, and they will likly be a day late, but no need to give up on them, especially if the low was 91. I've had eggs 3 days into incubation sit at room temperature of 70F overnight and still end up hatching!

If you anticipate power to go out again, fill up as much of the empty air space in the bator with bottles/containers of water so when the power does go out again, the temperature will stay up a bit longer.

Well, no. I can't find my daily planner, but I am sure that they are due on the 6th of Feb. So let's see, that would make them 15 days in, right? I can usually add and subtract, but I was up most of the night trying to keep various things warm. Including the eggs.

So I guess I can just hope.

My bator got down to 55 degrees on day 10, and the power was out for about 30 hours. ALL of mine survived!! Leave them in!!!! Mine are due to hatch next Saturday, I'll let you know how it goes!

Just to help in the future. When I had my last hatch it was really bad, and I started blaming myself. My husband found me this link, and at the bottom after all of the general information is a list of what causes a lot of the various problems. Most of the problems are caused by too high of a temp. With too cooled it mostly seems if it doesn't kill it outright, then it will be OK.

here is the link
