They have power inverters at wal-mart, pilot truck stops, radio shack...etc Range in price from $25-$300 depending on how much power you need. I was using a $25 300watt power inverter. It is worth the investment, if your power goes out, and you have fuel to run your vehical.

Did the eggs survive? Are they peeping?

I woke up this morning and the power had been out a while. The chicks in the brooder seem ok now that the power is back on. I did stuff to keep them warm but I was really worried about my eggs in the incubator.

Thr power came back on before I could get to the eggs so I just left them in the bator and am hopeful. I was relieved to see so many people say cooling off a little isn't always a killer.

So.... did your chicks make it?

My eggs are due to hatch tomorrow. However, two have hatched, one is zipping, and one is pipping.

The two who hatched, were really vigorous. They went from pip to hatch in about 10 minutes.

So I am full of hope.

Now, there are probably, what, 35 more eggs in there, so we'll see. When I candled them previous to lockdown, I had three that candled clear and one that I was pretty sure was a dead chick, and I did open them up, and I was right

Wow, what a hard thing to plan for. After reading some helpful posts last year, I will try the following when I know a storm is coming: pocket heating packages, closed jar of water or smooth clean rock/s put in the incubator whild it's running to bring up to heat temp & hold it for a while. The heat can be kept up by replenishing with the heat packets (or even a jar of warm water could be replenished if you have a way to heat the water like for camping out). Happy hatching!

Sounds like the eggs did just fine! I am impressed and relieved! Happy Hatching. I bet the ones that got out are going to encourage the others to hurry up
