I'm looking to get a couple Welsh Harlequins this spring, and was wondering if there are any breeders around in Michigan? I know mail ordering is common, but it makes me nervous for the babies and I'd prefer to pick them up myself.

Well, if anyone hears of any, please keep me in mind!

I have a flock of Welsh Harlequin ducks and am contemplating hatching some out this spring..... They are just barely a year old, so I will have to see if my drake Wilberforce is fertile. I'll let you know if I do! (Oh, I live near Lapeer MI)

WH are very broody. Two of my 3 are sitting now. We had a snow storm a couple weeks back and the eggs did not get picked up. If your luck is like mine your whole flock will be sitting. I did not really want more ducklings but oh well.

I ordered mine a couple of years ago from Metzer Farms and was very pleased with their service and with my ducks.

On the broody thing, I thought this was funny. During December when we had a lot of snow on the ground, my son made two eggs out of snow. He put one in the duck house and one on the patio. Our dog ate the one on the patio. One of our ducks went and started sitting on the one in the duck house.

Yes please, that would be great! We are not going to be ready for any until at least May, if not a little later. I want to get things all set up first. And Lapeer is nice and close for us!
As far as the broodiness goes, I'm assuming it's the same as with chickens that you just don't get as many eggs, right? Since I have chickens for that, I'm ok with not having a ton of duck eggs.

We are looking at starting a flock of ducks and I love, love, love the WH and want to start with them. I will mail order if I have to, but would really prefer to keep the money in Michigan. Anybody who was on this thread from Michigan hatching any this Spring that they are interested in selling?

I am hatching some (actually planning on starting the incubator this Wednesday May 1st) but only doing a limited number. PM me if you are interested, and I'll see what I can do!
