I have a 7 week old welsh female that is not using her right leg. I’ve removed her and have her back in the house. It’s not bumblefoot and it’s not dislocated.

She’s not able to bear weight very well on her left leg but cannot use her right at all.

I’m thinking it’s a soft tissue injury or a small break. Should I wrap it? How should I wrap it? I don’t want to go get her an X-ray. She’s still eating and drinking. I’m sure I forgot things but just ask.

Rest and some Vitamin B complex . the B complex will help support the legs while healing 1ml per day. Rest and water therapy is about all you can do until it heals. When feeling along the leg can you feel anything different compared to the other leg? What a pretty duckling. TSC carries a good Liquid B complex it will say injectable but we use it orally over a special treat. And please update on how she is doing.

Ok that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing. I put some nutri drench in her water but I have rooster booster too. She’s doing a little better today. That bath I gave her yesterday was epsom so I’m hoping that helped. Today is the first day I was able to tell she actually has mobility of it (she’d lay down with it kind of hanging back but today she’s got it tighter to her body). I checked the joints and there is no swelling or dislocation. I’m hoping it’s just a small fracture, I feel like that’s the best case scenario tbh. She’s got a brooder plate in there (at the highest setting) so she can get warmth on it by laying under there. And we’re giving her fresh greens to boost niacin (she was out free ranging before). I got her and two others from tsc to sneak under a momma but she didn’t accept them and I’ve had a horrible time with niacin deficiency with them (no more hatchery brds from now on).

Good to hear your seeing improvement. Keep us updated!
Well there has been a 3am complication… dogs started barking at noise coming from the kitchen. I went out to check on her and found her having what seems like a seizure to me. Unresponsive to audio and physical stimulus. Happened for probably a solid 30 seconds if not more.

Of course hopped on here to do research and found posts of WELSH birds the same age from hatcheries doing similar things. Anyone know what’s going on?!

She’s doing much better today. No more seizures and she’s standing so going back to daily water therapy and going to start thinking about moving her back to the flock… probably in a pen of her own but look no touch. She could easily be reinjured by another duck either hurting her due to reintroduction or by accident. But leaving her in the house at some point will become counterproductive to her recovery since she’s a flock creature. Not sure I’ll ever know why she was seizing but on Facebook I got lots of replies saying that over the last couple years this has been common among tsc welsh ducklings so maybe there is some genetic issues happening. It’s too bad because she’s gorgeous.
