I'm new to ducks, and so far, I've learned that different breeds can't mate, or the ducklings will be sterile. I have recently bought, what I'm pretty sure is a gold phase Welsh Harlequin drake, and possibly a silver phase Welsh Harlequin hen. Now for the dumb question, will the different color phases cause a problem, or can they breed and produce fertile ducklings? Thank you so much!

Different breeds of ducks can mate and will produce offspring.
Non mallard derived (muscovies) and mallard derived (everything else) can still mate, but the offspring will be sterile. The only sterile offspring come from a muscovy mating with a non muscovy/mallard derived breed.

But barring muscovies, a WH can mate with a pekin can mate with a runner can mate with a mallard can mate with a buff can mate with a saxony, etc....
and you will have mixed breed ducklings.
And those ducklings WILL be able to mate.
