Welsummer chickens

Hi I was wondering how the welsummer was for egg laying??

and how hardy they are.

I like mine. They don't seem to go broody and they lay nice size eggs.

How is the colour of their eggs?

Not as dark as my Marans but lots darker than the BR's eggs.

They've been pretty reliable layers. The ones that are laying now are about 5 years old and I've got some pullets coming up that aren't laying yet. They took a break for a couple of months with their molt and when it first got cold.

Mine lay well most of the year, but not in the winter. We have these nasty northern winters. They make up for it the rest of the year though!
