Someone wants to give me a Welsumer cockeral, because they can't have roosters. He is just average right now, but then he is young, and is in the process of molting, should I give him a chance? Or just say no thank you? I don't have any pics, sorry. Also, how rare is the breed? I have heard on a few sites, that in the US, it is a fairly rare breed.

Depends...on a lot of things.
How old is he......must be full grown cockbird if he's molting,
unless he's about 3-4 months and is in his final juvenile molt.

Do you have lots of space?
Do you have a space to isolate him if needed?
How many girls, and how old, do you have?
Do you need a male?
Do you want a male?
Do you want to deal with a male, if he isn't a nice one?

They aren't rare, most the hatcheries have them.
Show quality birds are 'rare'.

I have a wellie cockbird, raised him from a chick, he's a great bird.

ETA: bringing in any bird other than day old hatchery chicks risks bringing in pests and/or disease.

Well I did it, yesterday I took the plunge and picked the sucker up. He is skinny right now, (I gave him a de-wormer), and he's happily inspecting everything there is to see in my yard. I didn't isolate him this time, because my isolation area is being sprayed and cleaned from a sick rooster I had.
