Welsummer Contest! PRIZE! *CLOSED*

Wow just saw this thread and I took some pics of my birds a couple days ago! Glad you extended the contest! Love my wellies! Not SQ but I think theyre nice!

Here's Chatty Kathy
Hen hatched on 12/21/08 so a little over 9 mos old. Lays just about every day!
2 of my other welsummer hens went broody on me a while back and arent laying now and looking a bit rough around the edges. Could they be going into molt?

Heres a couple shots of Cornelius
Cockerel or Rooster 9 months old.
He's got a great disposition! And thinks he's a pretty handsome devil!
Here's a question - at what age does a cockerel become a rooster?

JanieMarie,

They are pretty darn close to show quality. I'll bet it would be a rare show where those birds would come in last. Keep working with your breeding and you will have show winners within a couple of generations.

Thanks Lensters! I thinks I've got a good start. I've never shown anything but would like to someday. Just worried it would become another addiction! lol

I had another rooster but he was ornery so is now in freezer camp!

Bird's name (if applicable): Cassie, Wings, Nugget, Strips
Sex: pullets/hens
Age (if known): 7 months
Category (Roosters, Hens, or Chicks): chicks, then pullets, then Hens
Fun Fact (optional): My husband named them all, Cassie is short for 'Casserole', another fact: I sold them all for dismantling my strawberry beds- they sounded a bit like geese when they 'honked' They were also very good mousers! Should have just kept them and put up a fence around my strawberries! Good egglayers too.

Okay, I'm posting this so I can upload all my Welsummer pics and add them in later.

As chicks:

purchased from Orscheln's as an impulse buy- who gets them from Estes hatchery.

Good luck all!

faykokoWV, I think you might want to keep an eye on the chick on the right in the picture. It doesn't have the typical coloration of a church.

Robin, thanks for the kind words about Elvis. He took Best Continental at the Evergreen State Fair but he ain't looking very good right now. I've caught sight of him a couple of times being chased all over the place by one of my Barnie cockerels. I noticed he was acting a little punky the other day. Pretty wobbly on his feet. Then I was walking down to the duck pen to feed them the next day and noticed Elvis laying flat out over next to a fence. When I walked over to him, I thought for sure he was dead but I swear I think he was playing possum!

Well, I could go on about what happened over the past few days but suffice it for now to say that I put him in a hutch today because he wasn't looking good at all and his comb was starting to turn pale. When I picked him up, I didn't feel any meat on his breast at all. So I've got him on some feed with Gamebird Developer in it - which is about 30% protein and I've got some Rooster Booster in his water.

I'm assuming you meant that it doesn't have the coloration of a typical chick, cause your right, he doesn't look anything like a church.

You know... I'm betting that I'm so inexperienced on this that that chick isn't a Welsummer. Now that I'm looking at everyone else's chick pictures....and going back and looking at other pictures on this site.... I'm guessing that little fella is one of the Barnevelders I got in the same shipment. Thank you for posting that... I would have figured it out eventually when they grew up... but then again, maybe not.
