Once the chest feathers are in, it's pretty easy to tell. An even, salmonish color across the breast is a female and splotches of brown and black is a male.

And yes they do look like Welsummers, If you do have a roo they are beautiful and I only had one for a little while but he was a great roo

Well maybe not the shell but the inside will definitely look the same. And probably taste the same too

I'd say go for it and post your pictures there, see if any welsummer people crop up. Did you mention where you got your chicks from? I think you have a good shot of getting good dark eggs, even with slate legs.

They look like welsummers, but breed standard is yellow legs only.
