I feel so bad for my daughter. This is our first time with chickens. I grew up with ducks. Sally was just over 2 months old (9-10 weeks). We purchased 4 one week and 4 the next. We decided since we are experimenting with "urban" chickens we'd get an assortment. We got 1 Wellsummer, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte & 1 Light Brahma the first week. The following week we got 1 Ameraucana, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 New Hampshire Red & 1 Jersey Black Giant. They got so big so fast! We had to move up production of the coop & run. Its lovely. Does anyone have any knowledge of any of our others having KNOW heat tolerance issues. It doesn't make sense why they'd even sell ones in our area that wouldn't do well. It gets HOT here. I planted some vines on one side of the coop...they need to grow faster obviously, to provide extra shade.
Thank you all SO MUCH for the thoughtfulness and advice.
