G'day to you all,

I have a Welsummer Rooster and am thinking of breeding him with some of my various hens;

The hens that I have are;
Ancona
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Gold Laced Wyandotte
Light Sussex

Has anyone had any experience with any of these crosses??? would you be able to sex the chicks by the colour of their down of feather with any of these crosses?? if any one has any photos they could share of their cross breeds please post them if you could.

Thanks to you all in advance

You might want to read the first article in this thread. It tells you how sex links work and gives some charts for some standard methods of creating sex links.

With your Welsummer rooster, you can get some sex links from your Silver Laced Wyandotte and Light Sussex hens. Those crosses will make red sex links. The others will not make red sex links, black sex links, and cannot be feather sexed.

If you hatch eggs from the Ancona, you should get black chicks. Those will be distinct. You won’t see that mottling on the adults either, mottling is a recessive gene. But if you also hatch eggs from the Gold Laced Wyandotte, you might be confused as to which chicks are from them and the females from the other two that are sex links since all those chicks will have reddish down. Any yellow chicks from those four breeds crossed with a Welsummer rooster will be male.
