Welsummer x Barred Rock cross question

If I cross my Welsummer Roosters with my Barred Rock hens do I get a black sex link of the caliber that a RIR rooster would give? I'm sure they will be sexually dimorphic at hatch, but are they going to be of the quality of a RIR x Barred Rock as far as egg laying ability? My black sex links from RIR and BR’s in the past have been egg laying MACHINES!!! Just curious if anyone ever tried it with a Welsummer.

Quite possibly they wouldn't lay quite as well. It would probably depend upon the individual strains.

If you cross the barred rock rooster over a welsummer hen you get something called a welbar, I think. Pretty popular across the pond.

And while some "casual" barnyard crosses do produce better than their parents. They're not going to outcompete the long term genetic commercial crosses that are so productive they're unhealthy.
