Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody knows of a place in VA or nearby where I can get Welsummers chicks from? I wanted to get eggs and hatch them myself but I've never hatched eggs before and I don't have an incubator yet either so I think I'll just go the chick route, lol. I'm a little intimidated by the whole hatching thing. It seems everything has to perfect for the eggs to actually hatch so I think I'll save that for when I have a little more experience!

Megan, not sure if you got your Welsummers, but I have five I will sell. I am cutting back on my chickens due to the increased cost of farm liability ins. They are 4 weeks old, I got them from Efowl. I also have 4 silver Wyandottes to sell, from McMurray they are around 3 months and I have several that are mostly Ameracuna or full that I hatched in the spring. I live a few hours from you, Midland VA. They are all $6 ea. You can also find me on fb: picaberryfarms/hobowpotteryllc

Awesome!! I'm so glad you replied, I've been looking everywhere for Welsummers and, short from ordering them from efowl, I thought I was never going to find any. I told my husband yesterday after I had gone on efowl that I wanted him to order me some Welsummers from them as am early Xmas present, lol. We were actually thinking about going out to Dinwiddie maybe this weekend to get some fertile eggs we found on Craigslist, we just got an incubator and I'm itching to try it out!!! Are you anywhere near Dinwiddie?

We live north west of Fredericksburg, near Warrenton. I have had pretty good hatches with the incubator , there's a learning curve to it but once you figure it out hatching chicks is fairly easy. Next year I plan to have Welsummer chicks to sell or eggs.

I would be fine with $10 a dozen, really haven't thought that far. I don't sell any fertile eggs right now, my other chickens are a bit of a mix, but I am going back to pure Ameracauana and the Welsummers will be separate. I have 26 Welsummer chicks, half are hens, they are easy to sex. Females have more eyeliner with a darker triangle on the head. Are you interested in any roosters?

Yes, I definitely want a rooster, the Welsummers roosters are soooo pretty, I fell in love with them, lol. $10 a dozen would be awesome. But if I get the 5 chicks from you, I would like a rooster and 4 hens, that would be a good start to my welsummers flock. But I would still like to get some eggs from you when you get some.

Let me know then if you will be wanting them, I have them listed on Craigslist and I assume the pullets will go quickly. The roosters are pretty, did you know the Kellogs rooster is a Welsummer. I had two roosters that were given to me two winters ago, but I think they came from a pampered situation because that winter we had a deep freeze and both of them got frozen legs. Sad situation, I tried all I could do to help them, but the damage was done :( They make a pretty cooing sound as well.

Yeah, I was looking at pictures of roosters online and I kept seeing the Welsummers and I saw a post where someone said the Kellogg's rooster was a Welsummers. After that was when I decided I wanted a flock of them, lol. They are so beautiful. You'd be surprised how many chicken people don't know what a Welsummers roo even looks like. I'm discussing coming out there this weekend with my husband. I'm trying to get an answere out of him now, lol. I'll definitely let you know something by this evening so they don't get sold. I really, really want them though. I have some silkies that make the prettiest little chirping sounds, I fell in love with Silkies too, I've caught the chicken fever, lol.
