Hi. I am considering getting a batch of baby chicks in spring. I have had OEGBs but never Welsummers. To me they look very similar. The claims from the hatchery are friendly, vigorous, and cold-hardy. OEGBs not too friendly. Anyone have this breed?

I could my welsummer girls to be curious and personable but not lap chicken friendly. They were vigorous and lived quite well in the winters where we were at that time where significant snow, ice storms and extended periods well below freezing were routine

My welsummers are friendly, and will eat snacks out of my hand, but I would not say they are overly affectionate. They did great In the heat of summer and they are still thriving in the cold. They do seem to be near the top of the pecking order.

Welsummers are generally docile, talkative creatures. :) Nothing pleases them more than to approach you for a quick conversation. Some even enjoy a good petting session, though most prefer to avoid cuddles. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat....one of my favorite breeds.
