My wife and I have been planning our flock for 2 years prior to us getting our first chickens. Well this is the year and it has been great so far. We bought a stock tank from TSC and the usual supplies. We purchased 4 black sex link one is a roo. We also got 8 production reds. Well that was our flock for a whole 2 hours and someone got a wire hair and went to orcheliens and bought 4 Easter eggers, 4 Plymouth rocks, and 4 buff orpingtons. Now we have 22 hens and 2 roos. Talk about backyard flock to hobby farmer. LOL O yeah my name is Richard and the wife is Krystal.

You have already fallen victim to chicken math! It's a serious disease, almost always fatal.

Just look it up in the search bar.

Welcome to BYC and congrats on the new babies. Your chicks will probably outgrow that stock tank in 2 weeks. I built my brooder with 1/2 inch plywood, screwed together 2 ft x 4ft lengths in a square. There is no bottom but you can put plastic under it. It can be easily taken apart and stored for next time. At 2-3 weeks they will be flying, so a chicken wire framed top or netting comes in handy. Good luck and read everything you can on here, and you will learn a lot quickly.
