Imagine my surprise when my hand came back out from under a hen with these.....

...instead of some eggs!

I had forgotten when I put these 6 eggs under my broody Silkies, 3 in each nesting box. They have swapped boxes so much and I added more eggs in more boxes, because more Silkies went broody and I had no clue these were due to hatch. I was so excited to have a 100% hatch! Silkies are such good mommies. These 6 are so puffy, the camera doesn't do them justice.

When one Silkie leaves a nesting box to get a drink or eat, another one steals her spot, so since no one Silkie hatched these eggs alone, I figured it was best to just put them in the brooder. I have since added more eggs, so they are all happy again.

Still no black chicks out of 16 eggs hatched so far...so much for the 25% odds lol.

Thanks, I was so excited you would have thought I'd discovered gold instead of chicks lol.

I have had a couple broodies hatch eggs before, but I was expecting them to hatch and waiting on them. These eggs I just put in there and forgot about them, figuring they probably wouldn't hatch. So it was a great surprise!

Awww congrats! They are adorable. I am going to have 3 silkie hens out of my batch of chicks...not sure what I'm going to do when they go broody unless I keep one of the roosters

I love my Silkies, but they all like 4 of the 6 nesting boxes and there are 5 of them and a Black Jap that are all broody and want the same boxes. Sometimes I find 2 or 3 stuffed in the same box in 90 degree temps...they aren't the smartest tools in the shed lol.
