went to get more chicken starter food and went to the back to see how many chicks were still available.. I was apalled at some of the chicks that were still there.. there was a chick in there with pasty butt sooooo bad i complained to the store and told them if they didnt take care of it that chick would die.. they go well we will call our vet.. the store is super clean and even where the chickens are they take good care of them.. maybe they didnt see these two.. one didnt have it so bad could still see the vent moving but i got that one anyways// the other one was soooo bad it covered its entire backside.. so me being a sucker I bought it and came home to take care of this little silkie and clean it up and all of the feathers fell off its backside but its clean and it has olive oil on its backside now.. I did leave one behind because the vent was still movnig and i could see it.. but i think im gonna go save it tomorrow. i now have 18 chicks 1 juvenile and 3 hens.. thats alot of chickens but there so cute and super easy to care for... i had one a few days ago i was concerned about being too hit but moved them into a caged brooder and their happier now than in the enclosed one.. but wanted to post a picture of this poor chickens butt.. im making sure this one is getting plenty of water.. these chicks all came from the same breeder as my others..is it ok that all my chickens are still on purina medicated chicken starter..my 3 hens havent started laying yet

I see this at the store I buy my chicks too. I also see them right out of the shipping box sick.:(. I do agree that they could pay more attention, but you'll see this with a large number of chicks sold, especially during chick days.

Thank you for saving the little one. :)

Aw poor thing! Good thing you knew what to do. I would have gotten them too ;) lol

For the feed, I gave the little bitty chicks medicated feed until they were about 3-4 weeks or so. Then I started giving them starter/grower and now they are 11 weeks so I'm feeding them grower/finisher until they start laying.

I'm glad you brought it home

It needs some TLC and really what is one or two more. I would put some oyster shells in a separate dish for the older hens as soon as you get your first egg. I would also get the older hens off the medicated feed. You can add cider vinegar to chicks water to help prevent pasty butt. Good Luck with your little flock.
