I was born in Mojave and lived in Bakersfield and Lancaster until I was almost 10. All the relatives have left the state too, but I will always remember California Deserts.

try buying a hatchet in walmart when the kids are explaining what they and Mom are gonna use it for (culling chickens) boy was that experience a fun one.

Yeah, I've not been asked when buying extra blades for the pruiners why I'm so rough on them. But you bet I'd tell them

I guess the guy thought the little woman in the heels, lipstick and dress wanted pet birds?

Also high on my amusment list, when we did the fostercare walkthru, they saw my homebrew equiptment in our bedroom (room stays locked when we're not inside) "What's that?" without missing a beat hubby said "chemestry equiptment, I'm a science teacher".

Both are technically true statements.....
