Our chickens have a warm house with a moderately sized yard. We had been letting them out to free range the garden but it requires us to supervise them the entire time. We decided in Dec to expand the chicken yard to about .10 of acre. The gates are up; fencing next week. They'll be protected from ground predators but not aerial ones. It's a nice little extra space for when we are there but do not have to supervise them constantly. Here's two of our gates. The big one is for the tractor.

My first thought when I saw this was "Lucky!" How many chickens do you have?

I opted for the below style gates so the chickens were less likely to get out. They are very good at finding any gaps in the wire.

Nice Plan!!
Those are some hefty posts!
Got a power auger?
How tall will the fencing be?

Not seeing it above.

Curious as to....
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.

It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

We used a post hole digger, thought it was too small , but it was just about right. The black locust lasts forever. No matter how much space I give them, they all congregate at the gate.
