5 of our 7 alpacas will be here next weekend unless hurricane Hanna gets in the way

I would love to meet other alpaca owners who might be willing to share some information and give some advice/opinions.

We have been looking at these for about 5 years, the timing is finally right! I am so excited!

please email me [email protected] if you'd like to chat about them. be sure and tell me where you are located also, it doesn't matter, but if you are nearby we might like to visit!

We will be looking to breed 2 females this fall.

Hey there, congratulations! Unfortunately I am not near you but we have owned alpacas for 4 years now. We love them to death. We have had some up and downs too.

There are some groups I think are good. I am sure you have some in your area.

A lot of posters on there who have had alpacas for many years and vets who have too.

I am sure you know Alpacanation.

And this one.. http://alpacastreet.com/

I
am training now to become a certified sorter and I do shear my own animals. There is so much to learn about the fiber.

Have you taken any classes yet? Like birthing and parasites? You have got to get to those. Things change quickly with alpacas. We are learning new things all the time. Probably one of the biggest is worming issues. Some people still worm every 3-4 weeks without running spun fecals first and thus cause resistance.

There are several good books but we use Dr. Norm Evans the most.

I could write a novel here but I will stop.)

Oh Meg! I was just talking to Marlene about alpacas b/c I found a "rescue" on Pet Finder with alpacas for VERY reasonable adoption fees.

Good luck! Can't wait to see pictures!

I'm no expert but love talking lamas! I just stumbled upon all the posts on BYC about lamas and am excited! Did you end up getting the aplacas? I'm assuming you have two separate areas for the females and intact males?
