West Virginia

I think so too. I’m from here but moved away for many years. I missed the hills. I’m glad to be back. PA is very pretty too.
Hi! I'm sure there's more people here besides us, we just haven't met them yet! :frowNice to meet you! I was born and raised in McDowell but left 20 yrs ago and came back. I couldn't wait to get more chickens!

Great to meet you! It's so beautiful where you are in the state! I had friends near there I would visit.

So many people I know that left the state like we did come back. There's no place like it and there is lots of room for lots of chickens! :thumbsup

I've never been to Parkersburg but always wanted to! I'm sure it's nicer than the coal town I grew up in.All the large tracts of land here are owned by people other than those who live here.We all live along the roads but not on the mountain top. I wish the people who owned these large tracts would sell some of it to the people here so we could increase our tax base and have a few farms. The only thing here is coal.

Hi, all! I'm from Preston County, 30 minutes east of Morgantown up in the mountains. If I could change just one thing about the area, it would be a shorter winter with lower snow accumulation. Otherwise, it's a lovely area with lovely people, and we have everything we could want (and then some) within a short trip down to the big city of Morgantown!

I haven't seen posts from any Mountaineers in this thread so I'm starting... Hello from western West Virginia (Parkersburg). We got our first snow fall today, though it is really just a snow dusting.
I love that part of the state! My husband is from Jackson County, so I pass through Parkersburg about once a month.

McDowell is such a resilient area! I'm so sad that everything pulled out with the coal mines and left y'all high and dry. But everyone in that part of the state is so caring and compassionate: it's no wonder you couldn't resist coming back! If half of my neighbors were as nice as the mass majority of southern coalfields West Virginians, I wouldn't be able to resist.

Hello and Welcome! :frow I use to live in Preston county. I loved it there! I liked the snow, but you are right, it’s there for the whole winter. Here it’s not, but it’s mud instead.

I miss Kingwood and the buckwheat festival. My friend still buys me the flour so I can make the pancakes.
I moved back here to help my mom when my dad passed or I would still be there.

We are blessed with a beautiful state and kind people. It surprised me to find out last year that chickens are West Virginias top agriculture income for the state.
